CODES & STANDARDS MECHANICAL

Minimize risk by technical standards of design, materials, workmanship and maintenance

The main aims of the codes are:

  • To ensure that planners, administrators and plumbers develop the required competency to ensure that the codes are applied and upheld.
  • Those standards are set to ensure that the plumbing assemblies, materials and technologies are safe and effective.
  • To ensure that plumbing installations meet these standards.
  • To ensure safety and effectiveness continuously through the proper maintenance of these installations
2024 UMC - India The Uniform Mechanical Code™ is a two-book set that focused on achievable goals that conserve energy and related precious resources and reduce waste, while still enabling mechanical professionals to build affordable buildings with more efficient construction products and practices.

The Uniform Mechanical Code-India™ (UMC-I™) which is evolved from UMC™, provides required guidelines useful professionals involved in the design, installation and maintenance of Heating, Mechanical Ventilation, Cooling, Refrigeration, Incinerators, power generation units, Life Safety and miscellaneous building services and systems, while at the same time allowing latitude for innovation and new technologies.

The Uniform Mechanical Code-India, Illustrated Training Manual™ (UMC-I, ITM™) provides required guidelines for the design, installation and maintenance of Heating, Mechanical Ventilation, Cooling, Refrigeration and miscellaneous building services and systems, while at the same time allowing latitude for innovation and new technologies. UMC-I, ITM™ is the most comprehensive document ever created in India to standardize sustainable residential, industrial and commercial mechanical systems. The process of developing UMC-I, ITM™ brought together volunteers representing varied viewpoints and interests to achieve consensus on mechanical issues. Widespread awareness and adaptation and of these codes could result in a combined effort by the entire construction and infrastructure sector towards a cleaner and greener environment, thereby greatly reducing the carbon footprint.

Green Mechanical Code Supplement - India

The Green Mechanical Code Supplement-India (GMCS-I), published by the IAPMO Plumbing Codes and Standards India Pvt. Ltd. (IAPMO –India), is the first document of its kind. The supplement is a separate document from the Uniform Mechanical Code India (UMC-I) and establishes requirement for green building efficiency applicable to Heating Ventilation, Air-Conditioning systems, Boilers, Incinerators, and other miscellaneous cooling and heat-producing systems and appliances, while conserving energy and protecting the planet earth. The GMCS-I designed to facilitate safe and reliable sustainable Mechanical HVAC-R construction practices. The supplement also serves as a repository for the provisions that may be integrated into the Uniform codes.

With an intent to incorporate and implement the latest technology and systems for the protection of public health and safety and bring uniformity to the installation and maintenance of mechanical heating, ventilating, cooling, and refrigeration systems, IAPMO India and voluntary members of Indian Mechanical & HVAC-R Industry known as “Technical Committee Members” work together to use, adopt, and supplement the 2012 Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement (GPMCS) published by IAPMO USA. The modified 2014 GMCS-I has maintained the original contents but edited to suit the Indian law and conditions and accepted good engineering practices.

The supplement serves as a resource for authorities and progressive jurisdictions that are implementing green building and energy efficiency programs or enforcing existing green ordinances. This supplement also serves as a resource for Mechanical HVAC-R consultants, contractors, engineers, and manufacturers in designing and installing green mechanical HVAC-R systems.

Energy Efficient Products - India Cover The Energy Efficient Products-India (EEP-I) is a set of recommendations to all those who are involved in the design, engineering, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and manufacturing of Heating Ventilation, Air-Conditioning systems, Alternate cooling and heating system systems and appliances, while conserving energy and protecting the planet earth. The provisions in this document are not mandatory.

EEP-I is prepared by IAPMO-India and the Technical Committee (TC) comprising of eminent Consultants, Project Mangers, Contractors and Manufacturers in the country. TC has been supported in this endeavor by other leading professionals in the MEP & HVAC-R industry.

EEP-I will seek to:

  • Provide credible information on Energy efficient products and practices.
  • Nurture awareness about the importance of energy efficiency and recommend energy efficient products.
  • Assist consumers to make an informed choice of products that conserve energy.
